Artemis from Mytilene/Lesbos
The goddess of the hunt is leaning
relaxed against a pillar and is wearing
a short-sleeved chiton, and tall open
front boots. Her arms are decorated
with snake shaped bracelets. Originally
her head carried a diadem.
The Statue was found in Mytilene, the
capital of Lesbos, and is 107 cm high.
This roman work, dated to 2nd/3rd cent. C.E.
is a copy of an original from 4th cent. B.C.
and is exhibited at the Istanbul Museum.
